And How Many Bullets Do You Need in That Magazine?

Last night I watched the amateur home video of the shootout between Boston and Watertown police and the person referred to as “Suspect #1”.

I learned that there were something on the order of 200 shots fired during that firefight.

Think about that for just a moment.  It took a dozen or more cops, who are trained professionals, who practiced on at least a weekly basis with their firearms, to fire 200 rounds before he finally died.

Yet, our politicians (at least here in New York, and some in Washington – as well as other places I’m sure) are saying that the most anyone needs to have to protect themselves from armed intruders is seven rounds in the magazine.

Only 7 Rounds????

Of course it took trained police, who were not dealing with an unexpected attack, who were not roused from a peaceful slumber, who were not worried about their wives and kids, some 200 rounds to kill one dangerous man.

Makes you wonder if those politicians have even the slightest, tiniest hint of anything connected with the real world, doesn’t it?

Amazing isn’t it? Of course THEY are surrounded at all times by myriad armed men and surveillance. THEY probably don’t have to worry about home invasions or carjacking. THEY are more important than us… We can go ahead and die, there are billions of people to replace us.

Jim, while I certainly don’t want the politicos trying to determine this I’m not sure this is the best example. I’m not sure about Boston I know the police around here (Omaha) don’t practice weekly. Also look at NY a couple of years ago. Don’t remember how many cops but they fired 50+ rounds hitting the suspect 13 times and survived.

Yes, they did shoot more than 50 rounds in total. And thanks for adding more proof to my point. I’ve gotten several emails taking me to task about our police only being required to qualify once a year or once a quarter or some such nonsense. I tried to explain to these folks, and let me hasten to say that they all meant well with their comments, that there is a huge difference between “qualifying” and practicing. The former is so you can retain your job. The latter is so you have an improved chance of retaining your life.

I heard a former Law Enforcement individual say on the Mark Levin show that you don’t know how many rounds are needed to protect yourself until AFTER the incident is over. Liberal politicians never seem to be able to grasp this basic point. They live in a fairy land oftentimes protected by armed security, so this thought never penetrates their mushy, muddled brain.
