An article Friday morning in the American Spectator by Joshua Shnayer titled Nuclear Politics ends with the words:
“For years, the two parties have had a gentleman’s agreement not to change the rules surrounding nomination filibusters, since the party in power knew that before long it might be out of power. That agreement his now been broken. If Republicans find success in the 2014 and 2016 elections, Harry Reid may rue this day.”
I’m afraid that anyone not comatose for the past half century, or at least the past five years since His Imperial Majesty Barack the First ascended to the Presidency, knows that no matter what Democrats perpetrate in terms of destroying the Republic will be blamed on the Republicans.
Doubt that, do you?
How about Democrats being the protectors of minorities? Republicans, according to our Vice-President want to see “y’all back in chains.” Never mind that Democrats were the instigators of the odious Jim Crow laws of the last part of the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries. Never mind that Bull Connors, George Wallace and Orval Forbus were all Democrats. Never mind that Lyndon Baines Johnson is reported to have uttered these words regarding the effect of the 1964 Civil Rights Act that he and his minions pushed through Congress:
“The Niggers will vote Democrat for the next 200 years.”
Yet with eloquent aplomb, Democrats will tell the average (i.e., uninformed) voter that Republicans are anti-minority.
Even today, Democrats, particularly the Democrat-in-Chief and the media octopus that answers to his whistle in a frighteningly Pavlovian manner, that the blame for the Obamacare rollout failure lies at the feet of Republicans.
There is no doubt that the practice of telling the Big Lie, over and over and over is what Democrats are counting on to get them through an electoral rough spot. I can even predict how the filibuster Big Lie will be worded:
“Well, yes, the Democrats did allow a radical Muslim cleric to be seated on the D.C. Court of Appeals, to sit right next to a communist inspired terrorist from the 60’s, but it’s only because the Republicans failed to stop us. It’s really THEIR fault.”
Harry Reid isn’t going to “rue the day”. He always has a Republican punching bag close at hand to take the blame, no matter what he and the Democrats have done.
